Voice "acting" test

I started the "voice acting" in english, please, let me know if my french accent isn't too pronounced, if the voice is credible.
Thanks in advance for this feed back, I really want to know in order to go on this way, or to "recruit" actors :P

Hello, here's the last version of Starfield 0, coming with few updates, smoother engine with lighter file, sexy particles effects on damages and explosions etc.
You can now shield your ship pressing 'F' key.

:star: Sounds bug may occur skipping the chat on the third sentence. Soon fixed.


CONTROLS :
Move : Arrow keys

It's really good, but the intro sequence needs to be snappier. It takes a long time to get into the action and when it comes to browser based games like this, very few people have the patience to let all that text type itself out. I like how the ships break apart, the art is great and the music is fun. Your voice is a little tough to hear though, lol.

Aside from that little thing, the game is really great! Well done, chap!

There's a skip button while the speech into thingy, yet yeah, if I continue this game someday, I'll change it a bit. I think I won't keep the "voice acting" though, or I'll ask for free actors, my accent isn't credible enough :p

This is a really great game! The menu screen is absolutely beautiful. You did a really great job there. :D I thought the music was all right, and the ships and interface were really decent. It was fun shooting at the enemies, heh heh. And the physics of the movement were cool and believable. I especially liked how your ship takes damage and bounces back after an enemy explodes nearby.

However, I think you need the text to load faster. Also, the English was all right, though the woman did sound a bit too masculine, in my opinion. Also, you need to have a tutorial level or something. I see that you had put the controls in the description, which is alright, but it should be in the game somewhere. I also don't think that you need a "play" screen beforehand. I think the game should just load, go to your logo, and then go straight to the menu screen. Also, I'm not sure why the guy said he was out of ammo when he had plenty to defend himself with... :o

Again, this was really well done. One of the best shooting games I've played on dA, hee hee. :) Keep working at it!

Thank you so much for taking time to feed back on almost anything in my shmup, I'm so glad when people enjoy playing my games, it gives me the will to go on :)

You're true on every points you mentioned :
- I'll get rid of the "play" button in the next releases, it lasts since the earlier versions that didn't include the menu, but it's useless now.
- I'll increase the typing speed (atm, you can make it faster pressing space).
- The woman's voice is my own ultra-deformed (pitch/tempo), I'll look for a true voice actress. (Hmmm would you eventually be interested ? :) )
- It's still a WIP level, the first one won't look this one, I'll add an in game tuto :)
- Maybe should I change a bit what the guy says into "Fortunately, I still have a lot of protonic blasts" :)

Again, thanks a LOT :hug:, Skyrim is taking my spare time away from coding, I'll keep on working on this shmup as soon as possible :blush:

Hmm, as for voice acting, I'm not sure how my mic is functioning (it broke juuuuuust yesterday), so I will have to get back to you on that.

I played the newer version; wow, those octagonal ships are a pain! xD But it's a nice added layer of difficulty. :)

Hey,

everybody loves this type of arcade game. Your little Story-Twist is ok, the enemies are well animated and drawn (i like the different look, when the enemy is half-broken). I would love to help you with some constructive critics:

- faster ship movements (it feels a bit sticky and it should be weightless)
- different stages (after playing about 10 minutes it fells kind of boring to shoot the same enemies all the time.)
- final boss enemies at the end of every stage
- Music: also kind of boring to listen 10 times to the same song. - on newgrounds u will find some moar. i prefer some retro classic 8 bit style stuff in such a games.
- story between the stages (and more of the dialogue, wich is really entertaining chat style)

Ok, i hope that will help a bit.

I agree with all this, the music gets old quick, actually get irritating. Enemies seem to repeat a lot and take a lot of shots. I'd like the enemies easier to kill and harder to hit. Swoop and dive, circle etc. Otherwise the gameplay is just shooting at an almost static enemy.

The background seem's a bit too fast and repeats but otherwise is a nice touch.

The male voice is fine, the female voice sounds a bit strange in a way that I can't place.

Hehe, j'ai du coup aussi plein de jeux en tête, mais si je parviens au bout, je prendrai des doubleurs américains je pense, au vu des commentaires reçus :) Je ferai peut-être la VF ^^

Ahem... je pense que tu devrais éviter le doublage... effectivement l'accent français s'entend direct.
Juste un truc, je joue à beaucoup de shmups et ce qu'il manque dans le tiens pour l'instant c'est un vaisseau réactif. Je trouve qu'il a beaucoup trop d'inertie et les projectiles sont trop lents a mon gout ce qui donne un jeu "mou".

Mais sinon c'est une bonne base de shmup old shcool.

Salut, merci d'avoir pris le temps de critiquer :)

Pour l'accent français, c'est sûr que ça s'entend, je demandais surtout à des anglais/américains de dire si c'était dérangeant, si mon accent français n'était pas trop prononcé.
Même si ici sur DeviantArt ils m'ont dit que ça passait, des amricains/anglais m'ont quand même conseillé ailleurs de recourir à des doubleurs. Donc je laisserai l'intro doublée de cette façon pendant la phase de dev, et je recruterai des doubleurs si je termine le jeu ;)

En ce qui concerne les mécanismes du jeu, c'est pas comme si j'utilisais flixel ou flashpunk, je code tout de A à Z, les modifications sont donc moins aisées, je ne vais pas les modifier tant que je n'aurais pas inclus les améliorations, mais j'ai prévu les upgrades (fonctionnels pour le moment en ligne de code :p), les bonus (dont font partie les améliorations de vitesse et de manipulation) les dommages, la vitesse de tir etc..

C'est "mou" comme ça le sera dans le premier niveau, sans les upgrades ;)

lookin nifty so far, especially like the damage system you've got going on there. noticed a small bug that someone might have already mentioned- when the player has both firing buttons pressed, they can still go left, but not right- not sure how often it would pop up but thought I'd mention it just the same.

can't give a crit on the voice acting (sorry) it's really late at night and i can't find my headphones :la:

Yep, from the beginning to end end, all mine :) Scripting, graphics, even the voices, male and female, the sfx (explosions for example are aluminium foil hit on the mic then deformed).
The musics come from newgrounds (credits on the loading page).

It's quiet easing using Sound.setPan() method with values -100 on the left, 0 in the middle, and 100 on right :)

Really good. Some ship upgrades would keep it playable for longer, and of course a change of levels, enemies etc.. but so far look great. I kind of like how it is a little slow to move.

I didn't play it for very long but this is my take on it: That's a really well made game engine. Kicks butt. I usually skip cut scenes and this game was no different, sorry...I don't play games for the narrative. I think the gameplay itself is tight, but the enemies take a bit too many shots to destroy to be entry level enemies. The screen space also feels a little cramped with the size of the enemies. I enjoyed the music and sound effects, and how you made the screen shake with the explosions; it really helped bring about the arcade feel of the game. Power-ups are needed.

As it's a demo, the difficulty isn't balanced at all, the fire rate won't be this fast at first, the ennemies won't have this much life neither.

I hardly noticed the accent, if I didn't know it was there I doubt I would have noticed it. The visuals and text take up a majority of the screen, and as a player I was too eager to play to really think about anything else. LOVE the menu too, can't wait to see what everything else looks like when it develops

Je tenterai de balancer un peu mieux la difficulté quand le jeu sera plus complet, ennemis plus agressifs et résistants, cadence de tir plus lente au début, etc :)

The busty red head made me lol- but I guess that's for humour. It's a pretty cool game :D I don't see these much anymore. The voice isn't too bad in my opinion- I think it just needs to sound a bit more upbeat and cheesy though haha. Really cool game.

Really good job!

I love shoot-em-ups, so I played with many. My opinion is: We need upgrades. Because its cool :D A progress bar, or a map, so we can see how many left. Like others said, BOSS. A shootemup cant live without BOSSes. The enemies movement is too linear. Try mix it a little. For example enemies come from front, sides, or the back...etc.
The background interesting for a while...
Long story short, some refinements and this will be the new top flashgame! :) Keep it up!
